...take 2...

never give up...never surrender...

After yesterday's mishap with the granola, and an encouraging response from my big sister, I decided to give that recipe one more try.

I bought more ingredients, lowered the oven temperature and added all the love I could muster. When I finally pulled them out of the oven, they looked (and smelled) so much better than yesterday.

Andy and I gave them a try tonight and they taste... better, but not what I was expecting. Andy ate a few of yesterday's granola bars (I'm not sure how) and he said that he would definitely eat these. He's a good husband. I think I'm going to set this granola bar baking fascination to the side until I get a trusted recipe, or have a friend over to supervise.

Though I tried again, I still didn't achieve my desired outcome. As I was baking, I so hoped they would turn out wonderfully. I wanted my story of triumph after defeat to inspire you to rush out and conquer your own world. But that's not how life works, is it?

Still, I'm hopeful that, whatever you are facing, you, too, will try again...and again...and again.

  1. Good for you for giving it a second try. And the second try was better so don't give up . You can come back to this when your ready. Something like this happened to me a few years ago. A neighbor asked me to help her make microwave peanut brittle. Neither of us had made brittle before but we followed the instructions carefully and to our surprise it turned out great. Emboldened by our success I decided to make some at my house. Everything went as before until the last. When I took the bowl from the microwave instead of golden brittle ready to be poured on a cookie sheet I had brown goo with an acrid smell of burnt karo. Turns out the wattage on my microwave was higher than my neighbors microwave and my ingredients burned.I had to recalculate the recipe for my oven.
You will get this just hang in there!

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Julia! So sorry for the delay in response, it's been a bit crazy in the Kuhn household. I'm looking forward to the start of spring break in one week and a day.

Love your story of the peanut brittle! Thanks for sharing! Isn't it just heartbreaking? Sigh...did you try again?

Hilariously, Andy has already found another recipe and he says he wants to try it. Never realized my desire for adventure would have him trying things on his own. It's really quite awesome.

      Have a great week!
