It didn't last long. Our return journey back into the land of the living took over 18 hours.
First, the plane was late to arrive. Pretty standard.
Then, someone had locked themselves in the lavatory and needed to be rescued. Um, really?! No...really?!?
After that, they had to perform some "minor" maintenance. Does replacing a windshield count as "minor" maintenance?
Finally, there was the weather. Oh the weather! With little else to do, I snapped pictures. Here are just a few:

The storm seemed far away, until we saw lightning start to flash. |

Our pilot pulled over and parked us on the side of the tarmac to wait out the storm. |

Over an hour later, under a promising sky, we sped away. |
As I took picture after picture, I was most captured by this one:

Incredible, isn't it? Perspective is everything! |
When we are ravaged by life's storms, it's difficult to remember that the sun still shines on us brightly, unrelentingly. No matter the situation, it's light and warmth are not lost to us forever. Soon...

While the r&r was much needed, the best part about these last few days was time spent with Andy. My eyes might have been dripping a bit when he drove off to work tonight.
I hope you had the most amazing week! Thank you for letting us run away together to focus on just us. There were many adventures had, but we're going to keep those to ourselves. Maybe someday we'll share them with you all.

Flying is a pain these days but I'm happy you had a wonderful rest. Much deserved ! I wish you had the summer off, it really makes difference.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start The Kite Runner today I'll you know how it goes.
Glad your back my friend xoxo
So I read The Fault In Our Stars when we were away. Have you read it yet? The movie comes out this week and I thought I'd peruse it beforehand. I actually really liked it, one for me that I couldn't put down, or didn't want to. Though it wasn't mind-blowingly amazing, I really liked it.
DeleteI've started on A Test of Wills and will let you know my thoughts. So far, so good. =)
Are you done with school now? I think so! Yeehaw!! Do you have to go in and clean your teacher space at all? Julia, will you remind me again what you teach? I'm not sure why I've forgotten, but I can't seem to recall.
Will you stay up late and sleep in even later? I kept waking up during the 6am hour on our vacation and Andy would say, "What are you doing up? It's vacation!" but my body never adjusts to vacation time. I just end up getting less sleep. ;)
(I might be planning on living vicariously through you this summer!...you know... just maybe...)
Looking forward to hearing about The Kite Runner...
Good morning my friend :-) I know you have to start back to work this week. Sorry. I feel a little quilty about this. You just go right ahead and live vicariously through me this summer. The school year seemed to speed by until May and then it seemed to drag by. I'm afraid as the end of school approached I just couldn't work up much interest in household chores. A terrible case of procrastination set in. Just give me about a week to catch up and our summer will begin in earnest.
ReplyDeleteI teach preschool. For years I had the eighteen month to two year old class. Short attention span and perpetual motion. This year I had the three year olds. For years I taught year round with a week or so off for vacation. About five years ago I decided that if I was going to continue to do this work ( which I really wanted to do) I needed a break. I took the summer off and it was great. It' tough on the pocket book, you have to be thrifty (cheap) but I really feel wealthy in the summer. For most people time on their hands connotates boredom, restlessness, maybe even a sense of purposelessness. Not me, to me it feels like a priviledge, an opportunity to do whatever you can think up to do. I always hope I can be a good steward of this given time to do some useful as well as fun things.
I'm with you on the body clock. I may be able to stay up later in the summer but I've gotton up early so long I don't even have to set the alarm anymore. This morning 5:55, eyes wide open. We need to be living on a farm because we are up with chickens! At least we would have fresh eggs, fresh veggies, fresh everthing everyday. We deserve this, there must be some reward for being such early risers ;) Actually it's not so bad because if I get up and at it I can be out the door by 6:15 for a walk. After I get back I fix myself a cuppa tea ( tea person not coffee) and some fruit and sit on the back porch to eat.
Sharon, just over my back fence are some wax myrtles that have been allowed to grow into trees. Cardinals live there. I have seen three male/female pairs cardinals sitting on my fence line. So lovely. A birdfeeder and sunflower seeds are definately on my to do list this summer. I'm wondering if they overwinter here. Maybe if I keep them fed I can entice them to stay the winter. I don't think so. Birds will follow their own instincts about what is best for them and I don't think they will be easily enticed away from that inner voice that protects their survival. A lesson.
A book report soon. Have a great day ♥
Sorry for the delay in response. I fell asleep in my clothes last night. A bit exhausted, I guess. Amazingly, I slept in until 8am, which is unheard of for me. It might have been that it was a rainy morning and there was no sunlight streaming through the windows. Honestly, I kind of felt like I lost part of my day...
DeletePreschool! Such a fun age, and so challenging. I bet you have some of the best conversations with them. They share the most hilarious news, don't they? Do you have many fun stories? Sometimes I'll come home and regale Andy with tales from class. I need to start writing them down. Do you write them down?
Sounds like you have some amazing mornings, my friend...
(psst. I'm also a tea person! Coffee is too bitter, and no amount of sugar or chocolate syrup makes it taste any better. Have you ever been to Teavana? My sister and my friend Brenda are the biggest tea drinkers I know. My sister, Rebecca, likes her tea to taste like tea, not like flowers and fruit. I like my tea to taste like flowers and fruit. ;) Which are you?)
Your place sounds beautiful! Do you have a Pinterest? I bet you can make your own birdfeeder! "That inner voice that protects their survival"...good lesson. Hopefully I'll heed it.
Getting a little frustrated with Inspector Rutledge! Who dun it? I can't figure it out yet, and I'm a bit impatient...;) Hope you're enjoying your first free week!
