Also, they're having this Lego exhibition I've been wanting to check out.
But the day began dark and wet, so I scrapped that plan and considered an indoor activity. Of course, by 10am a pale, baby blue was pushing it's way through the puffy, white clouds and my legs were itching for a hike. After reading reviews of "spectacular views" I put Route 66 Park into my GPS and headed south.
After the heavy rain, the air was a thick, nearly impenetrable mass, though this is usual for St. Louis. I found the outer loop and began my hike. Butterflies were like swarms of bees on the trail. I was constantly being attacked by the delicate little creatures as I walked past. I saw at least six different cardinals, and one lone bluejay, though I suspect his family was close by.
A father and son rode past on their bikes at one point. The bikes were older, with no gear shifts, and the son, on a three-wheeler, followed after his father, and at times raced to catch up. It was a sweet sight.
Sadly, I didn't really care much for the hike. There was little to no shade along the 3.44 miles and you had to walk through the brush to see the river at all. I think I've been spoiled by Castlewood State Park. It's just so tremendously beautiful...
I did take some pictures. There certainly were some pretty bits!

Does this make anyone else want to spin with abandon? Just me? Okay. |
As soon as I got to my car, the sky grew dark again. I'm not sure that the sun shined the rest of the day. It might not be my favorite place to hike, but nature sure did put on a pretty show for me today.
I hope I appreciated her enough...

ReplyDeleteSharon, can you read the comment I wrote ? I can't see it ! What happened? I'll writ again later.
ReplyDeleteNo. =(
DeleteI'm so sorry! Grrr, technology...
Alright a do over. Had to stop and get lunch started.
ReplyDeleteNot to sound over protective but you be careful when you are out hiking by yourself.
I'm afraid I'm at fault for not writng down the cute things they say. I do keep all the artwork and photos though.
Let's talk tea. I love both kinds and try to keep a nice variety of flavors and brands. We don't have a teavana but I see you can order online:) Do you have a World Market store? In the back in the food section they have a nice selection of teas. I love to go there at Christmas and buy small baskets and a cloth napkin in the kitchen dept. and fill the baskets with little food goodies from around the world. Makes a simple gift for neighbor or coworker etc... I hate coffee, no matter how you try and doctor it up, Yuck!!
Don't give up on Insp. Rutledge, he's working very hard and in the end he always gets his man or woman. I'm afraid I got sidetracked from reading The Kite Runner. I got a email from amazon that they had a Charles Todd book on sale. This was from their Bess Crawford series so I got the book and read it. I've never felt that this series was on par with Insp. R. but this one was good. I'm starting The Kite Runner today.
Worked on two projects yesterday. Both have been in the making for awhile. A couple of months ago I decided I was tired of grocery shopping taking up part of my time off on the weekend so I decided I would go one afternoon after work. A big mistake, the store was packed. I'm shopping for two so I have a long list, I finally gave up and just got the nesscessities and went home. I thought there has to be a better way. I remembered reading that you should shop around the perimeter of the store and stay out of the aisles. I realize the idea here is that the prepackaged and processed foods are in the aisles. So over the last couple of months I've been thinking about what I purchase, what do I need as opposed to what do I want. After alot of thought and some new choices I got to the store bright and early. I worked my way around the store and only made three purchases from the interior of the store. It worked out great. Time will tell if this will work out but I have a couple more ideas for grocery shopping I want try out over the summer.
Over the weekend I started giving some tlc. to the patio furniture. I have two gliders, a chair and a swing made from wood. When I removed the covers this spring I could see some mildew. It looked like soot. I waited til school was out to give them a good cleaning and yesterday after I felt they had dried I started applying some linseed oil. I'll be glad when they are all spiffed up and I can put the cushions out. I will check pinterest for a birdfeeder. Thanks!
I've been meaning to ask how your house is coming. Any work yet?
Have a good day xoxo
Thanks for the advice about hiking. ;) I've often wondered what I would do if I came across a mountain lion, or a bear. I've decided that climbing a tree would be my best option. Hilariously, would you believe I've never actually climbed a tree? Was I ever a kid?
ReplyDeleteYes, I love World Market, though I've never been there for teas. We usually get the syrups and then buy some seltzer water and then treat ourselves to an Italian soda (usually vanilla!) Yum! That's a great idea for gifts. I'll keep it in mind for the holidays.
If you say that Rutledge gets his man then I trust you. I've been going between that and a really silly memoir called "Let's Pretend This Didn't Happen." Laugh out loud funny, though, if you don't care for cussing, I would say don't read it. Her childhood was the stuff of legends, and it has been reminding me of my own childhood and how really wonderful it was, even though we didn't have very much. It never felt that way, you know?
I've heard that, too, about shopping on the outsides of the store! I love that you're trying it. Hope it continues to work out well and I can't wait to hear about your other shopping adventures. Do you have farmers markets in your area? It seems it's so much cheaper to buy fresh fruits, veggies, eggs, etc.
Shopping for two? I'm assuming it's a parent?
Sounds like you have a great patio! Is it in shade or sun? Well done on cleaning them. I had never heard of the linseed oil. Does it keep it from getting mildew the next time?
Yes, check for a birdfeeder. I love Pinterest. If you have a Pinterest page, let me know and I'll follow you. I bet you have some great pins to share!
Ahhh, the house...is still in shambles. The insurance company got to the point where they were calling the restoration company daily for the estimate, and that was finally taken care of this week. We sent in a contract to work with them and I'm hoping by next week construction will have started...but then I think about how long this process has been going on and I laugh...
I hope you have a great weekend! Andy and I are heading to a local carnival - pray I don't die on a ride, okay ;) - and then to a strawberry festival. I think it's going to be a fun weekend!
xoxo
