This year marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of St. Louis, so there are all kinds of fun things going on around my city.
One of those is a scavenger hunt to some of the oldest and dearest loved haunts around the greater St. Louis are, called the Cakeway to the West. Different artists have designed the 250 cakes and families have the opportunity to go to these well known establishments and "find" them and take a picture. There's even an app for it!
It's actually pretty fun, and it gives you a good idea as to what has made St. Louis "St. Louis" over the centuries. It would be a great guide to people who are new to the area, or tourists who are visiting the area, and are looking to explore the best of what we have to offer.
I've really enjoyed seeing cakes around, but it wasn't until recently that I challenged myself to take a picture with all of them. So, I'm making a few new pages of cakes seen and visited, which you can find by looking to your right under the About Me page.
This is a free fun activity in the St. Louis area, and you will not get to do it again. I would highly encourage you to take part in this silly community activity. You may make a few friends along the way...
If you don't live in the St. Louis area, consider coming to visit us during these celebrations. If you let me know you're in town, I'll treat you to some Ted Drewes! I promise, there is nothing better!
Sharon I don't think I'm the one who suggested Mrs. Hemingway. Was I ?. I don't remember it. Glad you're enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteRemember I can't figure out how to send pics in the comment box. Sorry.
No, I was suggesting Mrs. Hemingway bc I thought that you still needed one for the historical fiction section. It's a great read! Someday on the pictures...
ReplyDeleteSorry, my fault. I misunderstood. I'll keep working on getting the pics to post. In the kitchen today.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day :-)
Don't worry about trying to get the pics to post. I'm thinking we're going to meet one day, and you can save up all the pictures for that day! ;)
DeleteEnjoy time in the kitchen!
Great, we will make it a point to meet someday and I will make a folder of pics for Sharon.
ReplyDeleteI have my new sewing machine sitting atop my grandmothers old Singer. I just looked up the make by the model number. The machine was made in 1924. My grandmother clothed her daughters and herself with this sewing machine, especially during the great depression. Wow! I'm just amazed to think of all the time spent at this machine.
Hope your having a great day my friend♥
Wow! 1924...I really wish I knew how to sew well. I'm always so impressed with people that can. I've made several things, but I never really feel that they are up to snuff, you know? Hems are crooked or seams aren't just right or something else...My mom made most of my prom-esque dresses, and I always wished I could do that. Looking forward to seeing your aprons!
DeleteSummer is a strange beast. Somedays you're working a ton, and then others not so much. June was a busy month, but next week will be nearly quiet with the holiday. It just depends on student availability. This week has been so full that I started to feel a bit under the weather, and so I've been going to bed almost as soon as I get home at 9pm. So sad! Going to bed at 9pm in the summer time! But I'm feeling much better for the weekend.
How is the garden growing? We ate one of our cucumbers this week and it was delicious! St. Louis is heating up and so we've begun watering the plants twice a day. If we don't, they wilt almost immediately. Andy's been a big help in this area while I'm at work. Hoping to have some zucchini soon.
How was time spent in the kitchen? Any great recipes?
Hope you've had a great week, and have big plans for the weekend! xoxo
