This evening, I went to an art show opening at the Sheldon where one of my photographs was featured...in a slideshow...along with 150 others...
A friend even noticed my name on a plaque. Mmm, hmm.
Don't worry, I won't let it go to my head.
I hope you can read into my subtle (or not so subtle) self-deprecating humor, but I'm still beaming. This was a first for me.
Do you remember this post when I asked you to help me choose which photos I should submit to Capture St. Louis Photo contest hosted by the Sheldon Art Galleries and the St. Louis Beacon? And then this post where I announced which three photos I was submitting?
Well, I got word a few weeks ago that, though I hadn't been chosen as one of the 100 winners, my picture would be featured in a slideshow along with 150 other photographs.
And what a privilege! As Andy and I walked through the halls, I was so impressed with what I saw! Some people have such an eye for capturing the beauty all around them. I'm still not sure why my photo was chosen.
Truly, this is worth a few moments of your time this summer. Stop by the Sheldon during their open hours and see the beauty of St. Louis through someone else's eyes.
Not only have I never won anything...ever!...I have never been to the Sheldon, so this was a double adventure. Here are a few pictures from our evening.

Here's the photo they chose. Do you see my name in the left hand corner? |

Can you find my name? |

And...we found another cake to scratch off our list! |
This has meant a lot to me, more than I expected. Thanks so much to everyone who gave their feedback on the blog or on Facebook, or sent me a message with what pictures they thought I should submit. Thanks to Crystal for running around Soulard with me, snapping photos. Thanks to Andy for being excited for and proud of me.
Thank you, thank you all for loving me with your time and energy. Though, I'm definitely not a big deal, your love has meant a great deal to me. And I'm a better me because of it.
xoxo
We had so much fun, even this couldn't dampen our evening:

Congratulations, my friend !!!
ReplyDeleteActually when I cautioned you about hiking alone I never thought about a four legged problem. I was thinking about a two legged upright kind of problem. Do you carry mace? Maybe a little can of bug spray or homemade pepper spray. I want you to have the freedom to go where you want to go, but still be safe.
ReplyDeleteWe do have a farmers market and I plan to visit it soon. We also have a good produce market as well as meat market. There is also another large grocery store that I like to shop at and that store has a little different layout than the store where I usually shop. I have several options to make this work and I have the summer to experiment and figure out how to make it a new routine.
Shopping for two? Yes, it's a parent. You are an eternal romantic, and I bet a matchmaker!
Is a porch covered and a patio uncovered? I don't know the rule on this but my porch/patio is covered and gets the morning sun. I put the linseed oil on because the wood was getting so dry it was beginning to split a little bit. The porch is all finished, cleaned and the cushions out.
I found a couple of bird feeders on pinterest that I think I can make but I'll have to get all the supplies to gather. I 've added that project to the summer to do list. I'm not on pinterest but I enjoy spending time there.
I was worried when you hadn't mentioned the house. Summer is a busy time for home builders and I didn't want the painters, carpenters, etc... to get busy with other work and you left with your home repairs undone. I hope they get on the job and stay on it until the job is complete and your happy with the results.
I start a new project this evening. A tease hahaha.
A strawberry festival, what could be better. Have a few bites of shortcake for me. Yum♥
xoxo
Can you believe there were not hundreds of strawberry desserts? I must admit, I was a bit miffed! ;)
DeleteYay! I can't wait to hear about your bird feeder! I'm so glad that you're going to try to put one together yourself. Definitely an adventure!
Thanks for the well wishes on our house. Grrr...and sigh...I do feel a bit at the mercy of others, and I don't feel like they really have much desire to see my house finished. I'll be so glad when it's all done. We dragged our TV into our room (something I said I'd never do!) because we've had several movies come up on our library queue that we've been wanting to see and we didn't want to cancel them. Movies we've seen: Approved for Adoption (great!); About Time (also great!); Silver Linings Playbook (sooo good!); currently watching the Hobbit but bc we can only watch for about an hour an evening together (our crazy schedules) it's taking a few days. It's okay so far. The acting is great, but I was angry to find out that they added a character who wasn't in the book, and the computerized orcs are driving me crazy. I prefer the real. Next up, Philomena. It was nominated for a bunch of oscars and Judi Dench is always amazing. Have you seen any of those?
I might be a matchmaker...;) I love love. And not just romantic love, but all kinds of love. While it may sound cliche, I believe what the world needs is love. Real love. True love. I believe love changes everything, melting even the most icy heart. Have you seen Frozen yet?
I'm really impressed with your ability and willingness to take care of your loved ones. That's true love, Julia. The kind of love that changes the world. The kind of kind-hearted service that ripples on into eternity.
Two legged creatures? Hahaha! I actually do think about it as I got out alone, and I'm very aware of my surroundings. Also, I was taught by a girl who lived in the city that if someone is following you and feels threatening to you, you should address them loudly and directly. She says it usually freaks out would be assailants and they go away because you're not as weak as you initially seemed...
...but maybe I should also get some pepper spray...
Have a great week this week! xoxo
