Mary and Niki |
I was made so keenly aware of that fact as I sat down to have lunch with Mary and Niki, two dear friends from my college days, whom I hadn't spoken to in over two years.
That fact breaks my heart a bit...
I am the worst person for keeping in touch. Mind you, I see and favorite and comment on their lives through Facebook, but that's not the same.
Over the last few years, I've been trying to improve on my "touch-keeping" skills. Still, I know there are more than a few people who might think I have forgotten about them.
I never do forget them.
I'm thankful for ladies that allow our friendship to pick back up where we left it, without malice or injury.
As we enjoyed a delicious Italian meal at Maggiano's, we chatted about where we had been and where we were headed. We laughed about our college days, about life, and about getting older.
After lunch, we sloshed through the late summer heat to The Fountain on Locust, one of the first ice cream saloons to sweep the nation.
A quick fact: the ice cream is aged, meaning it is held at high temperatures for 4 days, so as to allow the flavors to develop.

The Dark and Sinister Sundae - with a splash of caramel... ...because, you know...caramel... |
I'm so impressed with these two women, my friends. They have created such wonderful lives for themselves and their loved ones, and they continue to grow and become more beautiful every time I see them.
Our days are numbered. And as time pushes us inevitably forward, it's comforting to know that we don't have to succumb to western societies disdain of age. We can become better, filled with more life, more love, and more flavor.

With life tossing you to and fro, how do you manage to keep in touch with your old friends?
Busy, busy days. Talk to you this weekend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt! Hope back to school has been grand! Will chat soon! xoxo
DeleteSorry to be away so long . These last two weeks have been something of a blur. This year at work I have two age groups. In the morning I have what I call the teething group. The first week is difficult for this class. Alot of seperation anxiety and clinging. Which is perfectly understandable. The afternoon is spent with the potty training group. One afternoon as I was rushing to the restroom with a two year old he looked straight at me and told me " boys stand up and girls sit down". I told him that was exactly right. When they learn something new they want to share it with you. If it's new info to them it must be new info for you as well. Right? The second week was better with everyone getting into the routine and the children feel a little more secure.
ReplyDeleteThis past week I came home one day to find the front flower bed flooded and water running down the the driveway to the street. I could see that a sprinkler head was dribbling water. From the looks of it gallons of water. I went out and screwed the head down to cut off the water. I called the lawn man and he said he would be out in the morning. I checked before I went to bed and everything seemed to be drying up. The next morning more water another head was broken. The lawn guy came and replaced a valve and modified several sprinkler heads in the front and back yards. The joys of home ownership!
I've been pooped in the evenings but I have been catching up on the series Inspector Lewis. This is a continuation of the British series Inspector Morse. Inspector Morse was a show based on the novels of Colin Dexter. I loved this series and I read all the books. Ins. Morse show ended when the lead actor left the show . His partner at the Oxford police department was Sargent Lewis. Lewis is now an Inspector with a new partner and the show takes up again. I'm enjoying all the old characters and the new ones.
When you went to England did they take you outside the city on any day trips? Windsor Castle, Hampton Court maybe.
I hope things have calmed down in your part of the world. I know it was a really rough week. I hope all of the outside people and media will let it rest and let the legal process play out in peace.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a great week ;-))
Hi!
DeleteYes, with the start of the new school year, taking care of a puppy, and trying to fit in all my running, I feel like my adventuring has taken a bit of a hiatus.
Sounds like you have the best kids. Oh how I love the young ones. Lots of love and snuggles for sure, though working toward that routine can be a bear! Hopefully by this week they'll be old pros at it.
You're not working today, are you? I'm hoping you get to rest this Labor Day. I will be taking a nap shortly. I'm finding that I've been extra exhausted lately. Though the pup is no longer waking up in the middle of the night, I still hear every sound he makes.
Inspector Lewis? I'm going to watch season 1 episode 1 on amazon as soon as I'm finished with this reply. ;)
Are you planning a trip to England? Do it! I want to go back and see the countryside this time. I went to England by myself, so there were no tour guides, no groups, but I did venture into Hampton Court Palace. Here's the web address again. See if you can copy and paste it.

Does it work? You can read all about my English adventure there. If you can't read it, then maybe you should send me your email address and I'll copy and paste the whole thing into an email. All that to say, I did go to Hampton Court Palace and I loved it!
It seems that all is at peace right now, and I'm praying that the legal process with be just.
Hope you're enjoying some r&r! xoxo
